Current Grantees 

LANL Foundation offers three different types of grants, all of which represent our investment in individual, organizational, and institutional capacity to facilitate collective learning and changemaking in the ecosystem of education in Northern New Mexico and statewide.

Education Enrichment Grants are our largest and most competitive funding opportunity. These multi-year grants focus on school- and community-based pursuits that model excellence and innovation in education. In 2023, we awarded $1.4 million in Education Enrichment grants.

Invitational Grants are non-competitive grants by invitation only. They allow us to strategically partner with schools, organizations, and tribal communities to cultivate innovative programming, further pilot projects, and fund specific needs identified by our programs and regional partners. In 2023, we are investing $227,000 in Invitational grants.

Community Outreach Grants support collective learning and changemaking in the ecosystem of education across Northern New Mexico and statewide. In 2023, we awarded $100,000 in Community Outreach grants.

2024 Outreach Grantees

Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation is proud to announce 28 $5,000 grants awarded in the 2024 Community Outreach Grant cycle, totaling $140,000 invested in regional community partners. Recipients have two years to spend the funds.

Community Outreach Grants

  • Abrazos Family Support Services – Abrazos Family Support Services, through their comprehensive no-cost assessments, therapies, and interventions for individuals with developmental disabilities, particularly focuses on Whole Child Development within their Early Intervention program, assigning tailored multidisciplinary teams to each child from birth to age three.
  • Animal Protection of New Mexico – Animal Protection of New Mexico enriches humane education initiatives for Northern New Mexico students, cultivating their social, emotional, and cognitive growth through The Animal Connection program, which fosters critical thinking, social learning, and career pathways in animal welfare, empowering youth to positively impact their communities and forge meaningful connections with animals.
  • Bridges Project for Education – Bridges Project offers personalized postsecondary education counseling, alumni support, and early awareness programs, prioritizing historically underrepresented students, while also providing a diverse range of engaging learning opportunities and community events.
  • Collins Lake Autism Center – Collins Lake Autism Center aims to enhance the lives of individuals, particularly those with disabilities, by offering supported living, educational, and therapeutic services in a nature-based environment, fostering personal growth, problem-solving skills, and appreciation for nature’s beauty.
  • Cooking with Kids, Inc. – Cooking With Kids, through hands-on learning initiatives with fresh and affordable foods, champions health and experiential learning as top priorities within schools, fostering safe and supportive environments where students are encouraged to take risks leading to positive change, while their on-site presence facilitates seamless collaboration with parents, teachers, and administrators to ensure holistic educational outcomes.
  • DreamTree Project Inc. – The DreamTree Project enhances outreach and services within the Taos community by providing professional development, training, and employment opportunities to young and older adults, thus addressing employment opportunity inequities and fostering valuable connections with partner organizations and the community, ultimately bolstering the organization’s capacity for impactful outreach and service provision.
  • El Rito Public Library – The El Rito Public library, dedicated to lifelong learning and equitable access to knowledge through freely available books, aims to enhance livability and sustainability in rural communities by leveraging the wisdom within its collection and the inspiration of community elders, thereby fostering positive impacts through increased access to learning and shared knowledge.
  • Family Strengths Network – Family Strengths Network  provides crucial family support services for infants, children, and adolescents, addressing the unique challenges faced by kinship care providers and working towards equity by offering financial, physical, mental health, and legal resources, thereby fostering nurturing environments and aiding the overall growth and development of children from insecure circumstances or those who have experienced trauma.
  • Friends of the Jemez Springs Library – The Friends of the Jemez Springs Library is dedicated to providing essential library and community learning opportunities, as well as space for events and organizations in San Diego Canyon, aiming to enhance community members’ access to diverse learning experiences and develop capable and caring adults through speakers series, book discussion groups, and special events.
  • Inside Out – Inside Out, a Community Wellness Center, provides essential services such as food, clothing, hygiene, hot meals, and peer support to the indigent community of Espanola and surrounding areas free of charge, aiming to foster holistic well-being and harm reduction while promoting the importance of peer-to-peer support.
  • Las Vegas, New Mexico Community Foundation – Las Vegas, New Mexico Community Foundation is dedicated to fostering strategic connections that build on historical strengths and promote community well-being by supporting non-profit organizations in the Greater LasVegas area including San Miguel and Mora counties through promoting collaboration, funding community grants, and acting as a fiscal sponsor.
  • Los Alamos Community Foundation – The Los Alamos Community Foundation focuses on improving the quality of life in the community by inspiring local philanthropy and community giving to build the capacity and success of nonprofit organizations through training, volunteering, collaboration, programs and grantmaking.
  • Nacimiento Community Foundation – The Nacimiento Community Foundation seeks funding to support the Cuba Food Pantry’s mission of delivering integrated resources and programs to address food insecurity, empowering individuals, families, and communities to achieve health and self-sufficiency.
  • National Latino Behavioral Health Association – The NLBHA’s youth internship/council program, funded for professional development and hiring of interns to address the shortage of Certified Prevention Specialists in NM, empowers youth to affect community change, advocate for policy, and improve wellness, while creating a career pathway to the behavioral health field.
  • New Mexico Friends of Foster Children – New Mexico Friends of Foster Children provide children and youth in state or tribal foster care with essential childhood experiences and educational, emotional, and social supports, aiming to counter disproportionate challenges such as lower educational success, unemployment, and housing instability, thereby investing in their stable future and honoring their dignity beyond basic needs.
  • New Mexico Holocaust Museum and Gellert Center for Education – NMHIM educates students in schools about confronting hate and bigotry by utilizing the lessons of the Holocaust, other genocides, and discriminations, with the funding facilitating expanded outreach to cultivate teachers statewide and provide traveling exhibits and after-school programs for students, fostering a culture of empathy, understanding, and activism.
  • Northern Youth Project – The Northern Youth Project offers free youth programming and paid internships in arts, agriculture, and leadership, empowering interns to exercise democratic decision-making and connect with positive adult mentors through engaging activities such as gardening, community events, art markets, workshops, and outdoor adventures.
  • Picuris Pueblo – Picuris Pueblo supports their mission of empowering the community through culturally responsive education, fostering future leaders by taking a well-rounded approach that addresses academic, social, and emotional needs, creating a supportive environment where every student can thrive and contribute positively to the community.
  • Quivira Coalition, Inc. – Quivira Coalition, through education, innovation, and collaboration with diverse stakeholders, fosters resilience on working lands, pursuing its mission via initiatives which collectively empower land stewards, develop the next generation of agricultural leaders, and strengthen healthy working lands, food systems, and communities through evidence-based practices and knowledge sharing, positively impacting the sustainability and vitality of our ecosystems and communities.
  • R4 Creating – R4 Creating fosters learning and whole child development by offering accessible STEM pathways, with a focus on personalized tutoring relationships, engaging curriculum integration, and training teen and college-age tutors using multi-sensory strategies.
  • Reading Quest – Reading Quest provides Structured Literacy tutoring to public school students who have not been able to learn to read in their public-school classes.
  • Reunity Resources – Reunity Resources educates children and adults about environmental science, sustainable farming, and northern New Mexican cultures, fostering connections with food sources and each other while addressing equity issues related to food access, justice, and sovereignty, ultimately contributing to healthier communities through educational programs and regenerative food production initiatives.
  • San Ildefonso Day School – San Ildefonso Day School focuses on building self-esteem, character, and pride in Native American students by providing experiences outside the pueblo and classroom to enhance learning, develop new skills, and foster physical activity, thereby positively impacting students’ personal growth and educational experiences.
  • Santa Fe Recovery Center – Santa Fe Recovery Center facilitates lasting recovery from substance use and mental health disorders by providing evidence-based treatment, and promoting active engagement of individuals in recovery in community activities and employment opportunities, bridging the gap between treatment and sustainable employment and ensuring a meaningful and enduring impact on both individual lives and the broader community.
  • Santo Domingo Pueblo – The Santo Domingo Pueblo empowers youth through the Summer Enrichment Internship Program by nurturing their hearts, minds, and cultural identities through enriching internships, setting them on a path to thrive in college, careers, and their communities.
  • Solace Sexual Assault Services – Solace empowers healing and resiliency in sexual assault survivors across Northern New Mexico through advocacy, clinical support, and education, filling a crucial gap in federal funding for education and prevention efforts, thus fostering a culture of support and prevention in the community.
  • Talpa Community Center Association, Inc. – The Talpa Community Center and Library, serving as the vital hub of their rural community, offers free programs and services for all ages with a focus on maintaining accessibility to educational resources and fostering youth development and academic excellence.
  • Taos Community Foundation – Empowering Taos and surrounding areas, Taos Community Foundation (TCF) champions local nonprofits, fosters community well-being, and drives positive change through strategic grantmaking funding basic needs, education, healthcare, arts and culture, environmental sustainability, and community advocacy.


2023 – 2025 Education Enrichment Grantees

Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation is proud to announce $1.4 million has been awarded to 28 grantees in its 2023 Education Enrichment Grant cycle. These are 2-year grants, with $25,000 awarded in 2023 and $25,000 to be awarded in fall of 2024.

Assistance Dogs of the West

Grant Amount: $50,000
Assistance Dogs of the West employs professional trainers who work with students of all ages and ability levels to train and place assistance dogs to serve other people with disabilities as well as people experiencing trauma, through our service dog, Courthouse Facility, and Crisis Response Canine programs.

Audubon Southwest

Grant Amount: $50,000
The Santa Fe Outdoor Education Collaboration is a joint project between Audubon, the Santa Fe Botanical Garden, and the Santa Fe Watershed Association to provide standards-aligned, hands-on third, fourth, and fifth grade life-science programming based in and around Santa Fe.

Bridges Project for Education

Grant Amount: $50,000
Our approach is simple and straightforward--support the needs of all students of all ages, backgrounds, circumstances and achievement in the pursuit of postsecondary education--from bachelor and associate degrees to trade and vocational certificates--to enable them to improve their lives and positively impact the community.

Chama Valley Arts

Grant Amount: $50,000
Chama Valley Arts provides arts programs for community members of all ages from the Chama Valley, as well as producing the Chama Valley Art Festival and other events for local artists to show and sell their work.

College and Career Plaza

Grant Amount: $50,000
College and Career Plaza offers culturally and linguistically relevant college access and career development mentoring and guidance to all 9th-12th graders enrolled at Santa Fe High School, Santa Fe Indian School, Capital High School and Monte del Sol Charter School.

Girls Inc. of Santa Fe

Grant Amount: $50,000
Girls Inc. of Santa Fe inspires girls to be strong, through lessons and activities supporting mental and physical health; smart, through hands-on activities involving STEM concepts, reading, and college preparation; and bold, through discussions and activities that promote economic and media literacy and advocacy for self and others.

Keres Childrens Learning Center

Grant Amount: $50,000
Keres Children's Learning Center (KCLC) strives to reclaim our children's education and honor our heritage by using a comprehensive cultural and academic curriculum to assist families in nurturing Keres-speaking, holistically healthy, community minded, and academically strong students.

MathAmigos

Grant Amount: $50,000
MathAmigos is a New Mexico registered non-profit of volunteer mathematicians and educators dedicated to helping teachers inspire kids to love math - through workshops, coaching, and family outreach since 2017.

Moving Arts Espanola

Grant Amount: $50,000
With the mission of Building Community and Cultivating Leaders Through Arts and Culture, Moving Arts Espanola (MAE) provides high quality, affordable performing and visual arts education and free nutritional and academic support for children and youth ages 3-25.

Pueblo of Pojoaque

Grant Amount: $50,000
The Pueblo of Pojoaque Tewa Language Department provides opportunities for community members to learn and engage with their heritage language through immersion-based, experiential methods within the context of our Tewa worldview.

Pueblo of Santa Ana

Grant Amount: $50,000
Our team will carries out our mission by advocating, assisting, promoting, guiding, motivating, and supporting the whole person, along with family needs, through a positive and safe environment that promotes an individualistic approach to ensuring a quality education and livelihood of Tamayame identity for their entire life path.

Santa Fe Mountain Center

Grant Amount: $50,000
The Mountain Center (TMC) is a nationally recognized and accredited 501(C)3 educational and therapeutic organization that, since 1979, has been dedicated to promoting personal discovery and social change among youth, adults, families, and groups through the use of creative learning experiences in wilderness, community, and cultural environments.

Silver Bullet Productions

Grant Amount: $50,000
Silver Bullet Productions is a non profit educational film company that uses filmmaking as the vehicle for preserving culture; we create relevant learning by teaching filmmaking to tribal students and teachers to share their own stories, and by producing quality documentary films on the Native experience.

STEMarts Lab

Grant Amount: $50,000
STEMarts Lab empowers youth through art, science and technology to prepare them for the 21st century workplace, with a focus on rural and underserved communities.

YouthWorks

Grant Amount: $50,000
YouthWorks programs are structured to aid Opportunity Youth in the development of personal, social and leadership skills while building their educational and job skills through paid work-based learning and through empowering youth to reach their goals while leveraging opportunities and pathways to employment, higher education and community connection.

2023 Invitational Grantees

Grantmakers for Education

Grant Amount: $5,000
Grantmakers for Education is a membership organization of nearly 300 education grantmakers that catalyzes learning, fosters connections, and creates opportunities for members to collectively advance effective, strategic, and equity-centered grantmaking in the field of education.

Innovate+Educate

Grant Amount: $5,000
Innovate+Educate is focused on providing skills based training and job placement across New Mexico, with a focus on Northern New Mexico. They are also working on a workforce reentry initiative.

Las Vegas City Schools

Grant Amount: $15,000
Fire Relief & Recovery operational funding for Social Emotional Learning Support for students and teachers. Funded in part by W.K. Kellogg Foundation.

Las Vegas City Schools

Grant Amount: $15,000
In the wake of the wildfires that spread across our state, Las Vegas City Schools is documenting and exploring the event through a project called "Rising Through the Fires and Floods."

Los Alamos Community Foundation

Grant Amount: $5,000
Operational Funding to support ongoing grantmaking, education and training as well as coordinating and connecting community leaders to develop community capacity in the non-profit sector in Los Alamos.

New Mexico Mesa

Grant Amount: $25,000
New Mexico Mathematics, Engineering, and Science Achievement (NM MESA) is a pre-college program that prepares students for college and careers in mathematics, engineering, science, or related fields. NM MESA empowers and motivates New Mexico's culturally diverse students with science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) enrichment.

Pueblo of Jemez

Grant Amount: $5,000
Program Support to send a small team from the Pueblo of Jemez to the University of New Mexico's weeklong Evaluation Lab summer intensive.

Pueblo of Pojoaque

Grant Amount: $5,000
Program Support to send a small team from the Pueblo of Pojoaque to the University of New Mexico's weeklong Evaluation Lab summer intensive.

Tucumcari High School

Grant Amount: $8,000
Program funding to support Tucumcari High School's InvenTeam to participate in the 2023 EurekaFest. Funded in part by Deloitte Consulting.

West Las Vegas Public Schools

Grant Amount: $25,000
With support of the Form Foundation, this grant will help the West Las Vegas High School Robotics Lab, including the purchase a Nao robot. The Nao is a humanoid, programmable robot that will help students learn skills in programming, as well as help younger students expand their interpersonal and social skills.

2023 Outreach Grantees

Los Alamos National Laboratory Foundation is proud to announce $100,000 has been awarded to 20 grantees in its 2023 and Community Outreach Grant cycle totaling $100,000.

Community Outreach Grants

  • Cañones Early Childhood Center – We provide family-oriented early childhood education services to an isolated, underserved population in Rio Arriba County
  • Chimayo Cultural Preservation Association  Chimayo Cultural Preservation Association is a non profit organization committed to preserving the artistic, cultural, agricultural and educational heritage of Chimayo and the northern New Mexico region.
  • Eleanor Daggett Memorial Library – As a community hub, the library is a place of learning, finding resources, and making connections with other individuals looking for solutions to shared problems.
  • Embudo Valley Tutoring Association  Embudo Valley Tutoring Association provides free tutoring and mentoring services to high priority students at six school and library sites in Taos and Rio Arriba Counties.
  • Family Strengths Network – Family Strengths Network’s Grandparents Raising Grandchildren/Kinship Support Group gives kinship families access to resources, and an avenue to receive help and encouragement from others with relatable experiences.
  • Friends of the Jemez Springs Library – The Jemez Springs Public Library serves as a focal point for public programs and events in the Jemez Corridor and serves a diverse population of members and visitors.
  • Gerard’s House – Gerard’s House is a safe place for grieving children, teens and families, where healing happens through acceptance and peer support.
  • LEAP – Questa Stories  Voices of the Northern Rio Grande supports cultural resiliency and connection through audio and visual story and history gathering and sharing through the building of a community-based archive from and for North Central NM community members of all ages, now and in the future.
  • Los Alamos Makers – Los Alamos Makers is a 501 c 3 informal and inclusive vocational training center, an idea-stage incubator for technical endeavors, a workforce development partner and a hobbyist’s haven, providing help with basic woodworking, 3D printing, modern manufacturing, biotechnology and more.
  • New Mexico State University – We are a comprehensive research, land-grant university excelling in teaching, research and public service. NMSU is truly a reflection of the region s vibrant communities an exciting place to tackle challenges, find answers to important issues and prepare for the future.
  • Railyard Park Conservancy – The Railyard Park Conservancy provides community stewardship and advocacy for the horticultural care, educational programming and public art in Santa Fe’s Railyard Park and Plaza.
  • Rio Arriba Imagination Library  The Rio Arriba Imagination Library is an affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination Library committed to gifting books to county residents under five-years old to encourage literacy and improve school readiness.
  • Sangre de Cristo Youth Ranch – Sangre de Cristo Youth Ranch cultivates self-reliance though interdependence by providing a tuition-free immersive residential summer camp to diverse youth in a ranch and wilderness setting.
  • BreakthroughBreakthrough Santa Fe supports motivated public middle school students whose identities have been historically excluded from higher education on their path to college, while also providing high school and college-aged young adults with a rewarding experience as teachers and mentors.
  • Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association – Santa Fe Youth Symphony Association’s mission is t o inspire and engage the youth of Northern New Mexico’s multicultural communities through excellent music education, the guidance of music professionals, and performance opportunities from small ensemble to full orchestra in Jazz, Mariachi, Orchestra, and Chamber Music.
  • Taos Center for the Arts – Comprising of a 275 seat theater, two gallery spaces, and a multi-use outdoor courtyard, TCA works with over 30 non-profits annually and hosts youth ballet and dance, internationally touring classical chamber music quartets, jazz ensembles, performing artists, local theater, art exhibitions, and community events.
  • Teatro Paraguas – Umbrella Children’s Theatre at Teatro Paraguas offers tuition free theatre arts training that equips Northern New Mexico youth with skills that serve them as performers and human beings today, and prepare them for challenges faced tomorrow.
  • The Paseo ProjectThe Paseo Project is an arts non-profit based in Taos County that transforms community with art and art with community.
  • Truchas Services Center – Truchas Services Center provides services to the rural communities in the most easterly corner of Rio Arriba County including preschool, summer program, library, adult classes and food distribution.
  • Tutors to Teachers – Tutors to Teachers is a teacher pathway tutoring program working in pueblos, in schools, and in the community.
