Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation is now accepting applications for 2019 scholarships in two categories: four-year undergraduate awards and Career Pathways awards.
Four-Year Undergraduate Degree Scholarships
High school seniors enrolling in or undergraduates currently attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution in pursuit of a four-year degree in any field of study may apply. Awards range from $1,000 to $20,000, and one application in this category automatically allows students to be considered for any scholarship for which they are eligible. Different awards highlight specific qualifications, including first-generation college students, Native American students, leadership, financial need, resiliency, residency in certain communities, and degrees in business, education, science, technology, engineering and math.
Northern NM Tribal Business Scholarships are now offered as part of the four-year undergraduate degree scholarship process. These $1,500 one-time awards are available to qualified members of a local Pueblo or Tribe pursuing an undergraduate degree in business-related fields.
Application deadline for four-year undergraduate scholarships is January 21, 2020, with awards announced in spring and funds available in May.
Career Pathways Scholarships
Career Pathways scholarships provide $1,500 awards for two-year degrees, certifications and trades. Current high school seniors and anyone who has earned a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency (HSE) may apply for these funds. These scholarships may be renewed for a second year and a total of $3,000 without the need to reapply, as long as certain criteria are met.
Career Pathways scholarships are offered twice yearly. November 17, 2019 is the deadline for the fall awards. Recipients will be announced in December, with funds available in January, 2020. Applications for the spring cycle will be accepted beginning in March.
Detailed criteria and online applications are available at www.lanlfoundation.org/scholarships.
All Scholars must be residents of the Northern New Mexico seven-county area that includes Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe or Taos. Funding may be applied to any accredited post-secondary educational institution, in or out of state.
Since 1999, LANL Foundation has managed the program and administered the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF), with oversight provided by an advisory committee of volunteer donors. Scholarships are funded by LANL employees, retirees, contractors and Triad National Security, LLC. Community members and local businesses may also contribute to the fund. Donations through the LANL Foundation and the Lab’s employee giving tool are accepted year round.
In total, LAESF has awarded 1,667 scholarships worth more than $7.6 million.
