Young people are ready to lead
The LANL Foundation is launching the Rising Leaders Academy, a new leadership program designed to prepare young adults to serve on nonprofit boards, councils, commissions, school boards, and other community organizations

The program is open to Northern New Mexicans ages 18–35 who are curious about how community organizations work, care about where they live, and want to develop the skills and confidence to bolster their voice and participation in decisions that shape their communities.
What will they learn?
Participants will build practical skills in:
- Board governance and leadership
- Robert’s Rules of Order and parliamentary procedure
- Reading organizational financials and budgets
- Ethics and effective decision-making
- Strategic planning
- Mentorship and professional networking
The five-session program runs October through March, with participants also gaining real-world experience by observing three board, council, or commission meetings.
Participants will receive a $500 stipend and certificate of completion. No degree or prior board experience is required.
Who is eligible?
Applicants must be 18–25 and live in Northern New Mexico, with residency in Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, or Taos County, or be a member of one of the 18 Tribes within these counties. Applications are due September 11th.
Know someone who should apply?
Please share this opportunity with a young person in your family, workplace, school, community, or network who has the potential to be a community leader.
View and share the program flyer — It’s a quick, easy resource to pass along to someone who might be a great fit for the Academy.
Your recommendation could help someone take their first step toward a seat at the table. Thank you for helping us build a stronger pipeline of young leaders for Northern New Mexico.
