Mary Bissell

High School Transformation Coordinator

Mary Bissell joined the Foundation in October of 2024 as a program coordinator for the Program and Learning team. Her work focuses on the Innovation Zones initiative and transforming the high school experience for students all over the state of New Mexico. Mary leads two cohorts in this endeavor–one cohort of school staff and another cohort of community members from across the state.

Prior to joining the Foundation, Mary spent 14 years as a middle and high school math teacher and an instructional coach for all grade levels. Most recently, she served as an Effectiveness Coach for math teachers in New Mexico and Texas with TNTP. Mary has also served as a NMPED Teacher Liaison and is a NM TeachPlus alum.

Mary holds a Bachelor’s in marine biology from the University of California-Santa Barbara and a Master’s in education from New Mexico Tech. Mary was born and raised in Peñasco New Mexico and currently resides in Rio Rancho with her family.
