Española, NM – LANL Foundation has been recognized by the New Mexico National Board Certified Teacher Network (NM-NBCT) for its work to support and develop teachers in New Mexico. The Education Enrichment team at the Foundation was singled out for their efforts to recruit and bolster teacher candidates seeking their National Board Certification. Michael Dabrieo, Education Enrichment Director at LANL Foundation, and Paul Le Francois, K12 Program Coordinator, were awarded the “Building Capacity” award at a ceremony in Artesia on September 16th during the annual conference of the New Mexico National Board Network.

“Michael Dabrieo and Paul LeFrancois are the best cheerleaders that Northern New Mexico National Board candidates and facilitators could have,” said NM-NBCT Network Board President, Evelyn Sanchez. “They work tirelessly so that New Mexico educators have a smooth and successful National Board certification experience!”

National Board Certification was designed to develop, retain, and recognize accomplished educators, and to generate ongoing improvements in schools nationwide. It is the most respected professional certification available in K–12 education. Those who advance levels receive a substantial pay increase, as well as an annual salary differential for being National Board Certified.

“The salaries of our public school teachers do not match their dedication nor the importance of their work,” said Dabrieo. “For teachers to elevate their earnings, as well as their professional practice, some choose to enter this rigorous program that goes beyond state licensure and we have developed a program where they can find coaching and community throughout the process.”

According to current research, National Board Certified teachers are much more effective in their craft and practice. LANL Foundation’s support for local teachers pursuing National Board Certification is through a partnership with TRIAD National Security LLC.

The New Mexico National Board Certified Teacher Network began in 2001. A group of National Board Certified Teachers and other educational leaders met and envisioned a statewide network of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) working together to advance the work of National Boards in New Mexico.

Since 1997, LANL Foundation has been investing in education, learning, and human potential in Northern New Mexico.
