LANL Foundation celebrated the 25th Anniversary of the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF) with a celebration at the Governor’s Mansion in Santa Fe on Tuesday evening. Over 125 guests gathered to celebrate the Fund, which has awarded over $11 million to more than 2,300 students. Distinguished guests and speakers included State Representative Susan Herrera, who was also the Founding Executive Director of LANL Foundation, State Senator Leo Jaramillo, co-founder of LAESF Bob Romero, current and former members of the LAESF Advisory Committee, donors, current and former LANL Foundation staff and board members, and LANL Scholars.

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation is awarding 41 Northern New Mexico students Career Pathways Scholarships. These awards are for individuals who have a specific career in mind and are committed to earning an associate’s degree or certification in any field or trade. They are available to high school students and adult learners with a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency (HSE).

Meet Jamie Cruz-Sandoval, 2022 Bronze Scholarship and Michael A. Hiskey Nursing Scholarship winner. She is majoring in Nursing at the University of New Mexico. “I come from two Native American communities, and in Indian country in general, there are a lot of health disparities. Being awarded this scholarship allows me to continue furthering my education and earn a degree, allowing me to return and serve my communities as well as others.”

Meet Nathan Oswald from Taos, NM. He graduated from Farmington High School in 2001, spent two decades as a whitewater raft guide, and now attends UNM-Taos. He was awarded a Career Pathways Scholarship to study Pre-Science. “I am working towards a degree to be better able to find a permanent career in natural resource management in my lifelong home of Northern New Mexico.”

Meet Isa Bella Thomas, 2022 John and Marti Browne Leadership Scholar. She started Regent University in the fall of 2022 with plans to major in business. Isa Bella graduated from New Mexico School for the Arts where she took on numerous leadership roles. Sheco-founded the Women of Color Collective, which was featured in articles in the Albuquerque Journal, Source NM, The New Mexican, and Yahoo News

As part of LANL Foundation’s partnership with Wildflower International, the first Dell Technologies/Wildflower International Scholar will be named in 2023. Established by a $100,000 gift from Wildflower International with support from Dell Technologies, the soon-to-be endowed fund provides educational scholarships for Northern New Mexico high school seniors and undergraduates pursuing studies in computer science and other technology-based disciplines.
