Española, NM – The LANL Foundation is excited to announce the opening of the 2024 Scholarship Application for students pursuing a four-year undergraduate degree, which is accepting applications until January 21, 2025.
Scholarships are available to students from Northern New Mexico, regardless of their field of study, who meet the minimum eligibility criteria and demonstrate a commitment to academic achievement, leadership, and service. The LANL Foundation awarded a record $1 million in scholarships in 2024 thanks to the generosity of LANL Employees and other donors.
“Our mission is to help make college affordable and accessible to anyone from Northern New Mexico who seeks to improve their quality of life through education. The students in our region are our greatest resource and we want to make sure they feel seen for their talent and determination. We also seek to connect them with opportunities in New Mexico so they can envision a life and career here after they graduate,” said LANL Foundation Scholarship Program Director Mike Ammerman.
Students submit one application and the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF) Advisory Committee evaluates all applications to match students with any awards they qualify for. Scholarship amounts range from $1,000 for a single year to $20,000 over four years. Renewal of scholarships depends on maintaining good academic standing, GPA, and enrollment requirements.
In addition to financial support, LANL Scholars benefit from a range of valuable opportunities that enhance their academic and professional growth. Scholars gain access to internship opportunities at Los Alamos National Laboratory and other partner organizations, providing hands-on experience in their chosen fields. They also have the opportunity to be paired with mentors who offer guidance and support throughout their academic journey.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria
The LANL Foundation’s Four-Year Undergraduate Scholarships are competitive and open to students who meet the following qualifications:
- Have been a resident of Northern New Mexico (Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Sandoval, Santa Fe, or Taos Counties) for at least 366 consecutive days, or attend a residential school in one of these counties.
- Have a minimum 3.25 cumulative unweighted GPA.
- Are enrolling in or currently attending an accredited post-secondary educational institution in pursuit of a four-year degree.
Many scholarships have additional criteria including:
- Degrees in STEM, Education, Business, Healthcare, Computer Science, and more
- Outstanding leadership
- Financial need
- Demonstrating resilience and determination
- Passion for performing or visual arts
- priority for students from certain communities, schools and programs
- Native American heritage
- U.S. Military Veterans and family members
Applicants must provide:
- Two letters of recommendation (one academic and one extracurricular) or two academic letters.
- Three essays (250 words each) on career goals, leadership experience, and community impact.
- Unofficial transcript including grades from the Fall 2024 semester
Applications for the Career Pathways Scholarship supporting students pursuing two-year degrees and career training certificates will open in January 2025.
