Los Alamos (CLA), in partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation, has created an award to honor teachers and bring encouragement and support to the education profession in Rio Arriba County.
“Centerra – Los Alamos is proud to partner with the LANL Foundation in creating an Excellence in Teaching Award. Outside of the family, teachers have the greatest impact on our next generation of citizens, which will lead this great Nation through its future challenges,” Ted Spain, CLA general manager said. “Teachers do not receive enough recognition for their contributions. It is our honor to recognize just a few of the many outstanding teachers in our local communities.”
This year, the Excellence in Teaching Award will be given to seven teachers and includes a $1000 prize. Qualified nominees must have taught at their current K-12 public, Tribal, or charter school in Rio Arriba County for at least three years. Current and former students, teachers, administrators and other colleagues may submit nominations.
“The LANL Foundation sees excellence in teaching throughout Rio Arriba County,” Jenny Parks, LANL Foundation CEO said. “From elementary school students exploring science to high school scholarship recipients who display exceptional academic achievement, and every grade in between, we know it’s the teachers’ commitment to kids that helps build a promising future for our students and communities. This award shows that we, together with our neighbors and CLA, value teachers for the important work they do.”
Invited community members and staff from both sponsoring organizations and will select the winners from information provided through an online nomination form. Each teacher’s impact on his or her school, students, and community; leadership qualities; cultivation of positive culture; and inspiration of lifelong learning in others will be considered.
To nominate a teacher, fill out and submit the online form at www.lanlfoundation.org/teacheraward by November 14, 2016. Winners will be announced before the end-of- year break.
