Community Education & Learning Initiative: Foundation for Learning Series

LANL Foundation’s community education strengthens the physical, mental, social, and emotional well-being of children, families, and communities in culturally responsive and sustainable ways. Through this work, families, early childhood programs, and community leaders are empowered to deepen their understanding of early childhood development and other key topics that support thriving communities.

Purpose

The Foundation for Learning Series supports the early childhood ecosystem of parents, providers, and educators in Northern New Mexico by ensuring access to educational opportunities and professional development that enhance child well-being. We aim to foster lifelong learning among caregivers, educators, and families, equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to nurture thriving and healthy children. Education extends beyond early childhood—it includes preventative approaches that empower communities to build strong relationships, promote school readiness, and create a supportive village where every child can flourish.

Listening to Community Voices

To better understand community priorities, the Early Childhood Team conducted a regional needs assessment to identify strengths and gaps in early childhood education and services across Northern New Mexico. Guided by this feedback, the team launched the Foundation for Learning Series—a community-based initiative offering in-person and virtual trainings tailored to the needs of families and early childhood professionals. In partnership with Tribes, Pueblos, and Nations, we also continue to identify and support training opportunities for parents and teachers that honor and reflect each community’s unique cultural and linguistic strengths.

Learning Together

The Foundation for Learning Series encompasses a broad range of topics—from nutrition and guidance versus discipline to trauma prevention and leadership development—all informed by community input.
