Work-based learning (WBL) is a continuum of experiential learning opportunities that offer exposure to careers and develop employability skills critical for today’s workplace.
Work-based learning activities are authentic experiences that provide youth and adults with critical skills and insights to help them be successful whether they choose college or careers. Started by the LANL Foundation and its partners in 2021, the Northern New Mexico Coalition for Work-Based Learning is rooted in the notion that, working together, we can create a vibrant ecosystem of agencies, organizations, and employers that prepares the next generation of our local workforce.
Our mission is to address workforce challenges and promote economic growth by enhancing the employability of workers through an increased number of high-quality work-based learning opportunities within seven counties in Northern New Mexico including the counties of Colfax, Los Alamos, Mora, Rio Arriba, San Miguel, Santa Fe and Taos.
“We know that these experiences help people develop broad, transferable skills for success in high school, college, and the workplace and also enable them to access better jobs.”
Rebecca Estrada, Coalition Co-chair, the Higher Education & Workforce Development Specialist at Los Alamos National Laboratory
Our priorities are to: 1) ADVOCATE for funding and program permanency that focus on work-based learning initiatives; 2) host NETWORKING events for our members to foster better collaboration; 3) SHARE BEST PRACTICES within the work-based learning space; and 4) create LOCAL EVENTS that create opportunities.
