LANL Foundation is Now Accepting Four-Year College Scholarship Applications

Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation is now accepting applications for their four-year college scholarship awards. High school seniors and undergraduate students currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree at an accredited, post-secondary educational institution are encouraged to apply.

“Students from northern New Mexico are among the best and brightest in the country. With each application cycle, our dedicated team of volunteers is inspired by the talent, passion, character, and resilience of the students we serve. We look forward to welcoming many of these applicants into the LANL Scholars community,” says Mike Ammerman, LANL Foundation Scholarship Program Manager.

Awards range from $1,000 for a single year up to $20,000 disbursed over four years for students pursuing undergraduate degrees in any field of study. Eligible applicants are automatically considered for any and all applicable scholarship opportunities. Each award encompasses specific criteria for selection, including first-generation college attendees, Native American ancestry, leadership, financial need, resiliency, community residence, and degree choice.

2020 Gold Scholarship recipient Monica Chavez–a first generation college student–is currently pursuing Engineering Technology Exploration at Rochester Institute of Technology. She said her scholarship will help her to inspire more women of color to pursue technical fields.

“As a proud Mexican American woman, I plan on changing the narrative for women of color in marginalized communities to pursue careers in engineering. This scholarship helps me pursue my higher education in a way I didn’t think was going to be possible,” Chavez said.

The application deadline is January 19, 2021.

Scholarships are a valuable investment in our collective future and help turn promising potential into meaningful careers. Several funds have been established, each with a goal to support specific student needs. LANL Foundation manages the scholarship funds and ensures all donor contributions support student awards. Your donation is tax deductible. The majority of support for scholarships comes from Los Alamos National Laboratory employees and LANL, but we also accept contributions from community members and businesses.  Donate here: https://www.lanlfoundation.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=4
