LANL Foundation Awards $56,250 to 22 Outstanding Northern New Mexico Students

Espaňola, New Mexico—Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) Foundation, in partnership with the Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship Fund (LAESF), is proud to announce its 2021 Fall term Career Pathways Scholarship recipients. A grand total of $56,250 was awarded to 22 outstanding Northern New Mexico students, including four who were awarded a total of $12,000 from the ANCHORUM/CHRISTUS St. Vincent Medical Pathways Scholarship Fund.

The Career Pathways Scholarship awards up to $3,000 to qualified applicants pursuing a 2-year degree, trade, or certificate. High school seniors and individuals with a high school diploma or GED/High School Equivalency (HSE), or some college experience are encouraged to apply. While the pandemic has created challenges for students in pursuit of their goals, Career Pathways Scholars are focused and determined, with a clear vision of the career or trade they intend to pursue.

“This cohort of Career Pathways Scholarship recipients is truly representative of the spirit of this award,” Mike Ammerman, Scholarship Program Manager said. “As the country emerges from the pandemic, many employers are looking for skilled workers in order to resume business productivity. Our LANL Scholars are well positioned to help meet this demand and to strengthen Northern New Mexico during this period of recovery and beyond.”

In this 2021 Fall cohort of Career Pathways Scholars, some are pursuing associate’s degrees in high-demand health care fields, some seek credentials in skilled trades, such as welding and automotive repair, and others are making a career change that will allow them to follow their passions while providing for their families. All are highly motivated to gain the skills and credentials needed to enter the workforce in their career of choice, with the primary goal of improving quality of life for themselves, their family, and their community.
