LANL Foundation Awards $237,000 in Career Pathways and Graduate Scholarships

81 students across New Mexico receive scholarship support for career training, trade credentials, and graduate study

ESPAÑOLA, NM — The LANL Foundation is excited to announce this year’s Career Pathways Scholarship recipients and the first-ever recipients of the National Security Workforce Graduate Scholarship, investing in a talented future workforce.

67 Northern New Mexico high school students, college students, and adult learners received a total of $152,000 to pursue an associate degree, certification, or professional trade credential. The Career Pathways Scholarship is supported by funding from Triad, the Los Alamos National Laboratory Employee Scholarship Fund (LAESF), and other generous donors. It is administered by the LANL Foundation in an effort to support students with a clear career vision and dedication to pursuing the skills and credentials needed for their chosen careers.

“Success isn’t measured by a straight line, but by the courage it takes to chart a new path. The Career Pathways Scholarship is an investment in the vision and work ethic of young people and adults across our region. Northern New Mexico is made stronger by their determination, and we are proud to stand with them as they build new skills, unlock new opportunities, and shape a brighter future for themselves, their families, and our communities,” said Gwen Perea Warniment, President and CEO of the LANL Foundation. “In a similar way, the pursuit of an advanced degree is more than a commitment to a discipline; it is an act of leadership. Our new Graduate Scholarship is a remarkable partnership with Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) that drives meaningful innovation.”

The Career Pathways Scholarship reflects the Foundation’s commitment to accessible workforce opportunities across every stage of learning. That commitment now extends to graduate students preparing for careers connected to national security and advanced research.

14 graduate students from across New Mexico received a total of $85,000 through the National Security Workforce Graduate Scholarship. The scholarship is funded by the National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) through the Plutonium Workforce Development Institutional (PWDI) Partnerships Program and is administered through a collaboration between LANL, the New Mexico Consortium, and the LANL Foundation. It is the first graduate scholarship program administered by the Foundation. The initiative supports graduate students pursuing research and careers critical to New Mexico’s national security and innovation ecosystem.

“The LANL Foundation’s Graduate Student National Security Workforce Scholarships are more than financial support—they are an investment in the future scientific and technical workforce that will sustain Los Alamos National Laboratory’s national security mission for decades to come. These scholarships help talented graduate students pursue advanced education at universities across New Mexico while strengthening the pipeline of highly skilled professionals needed to address some of the nation’s most complex challenges and needs,” said Brad Beck, Workforce Program Director and PWDI Lead for Production Analysis & Transformation at Los Alamos National Laboratory.

By investing in students at multiple stages of their educational journey, the Foundation is helping build stronger workforce pathways and retain talent in New Mexico.

Earlier this year, the LANL Foundation also announced the 2026 recipients of its four-year scholarships, awarding nearly $1.2 million to 163 students across Northern New Mexico. Combined, the Foundation’s scholarship programs have awarded more than $1.4 million this year, impacting 239 students — the Foundation’s largest scholarship investment to date.

Applications for the Career Pathways and Graduate Scholarships will reopen early next year.
