October 30, 2022 – In the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, the LANL Foundation made a strategic decision to release more grant funding to support the students of Northern New Mexico. As part of this effort, we partnered with New Mexico Appleseed, a non-profit policy advocacy organization committed to ending poverty in our state, on an innovative pilot program that paid inadequately housed high school students to attend school, tutoring and social emotional support sessions, and complete their homework. This program recently made the front page of the Sunday edition of the Albuquerque Journal.
