Equity is as much about our children as the adults who serve them.
Teachers are the fundamental change agents in schools. By providing on-going opportunities for teachers to grow, reflect, feel validated, and develop their practice, ISEC makes an impact with a systemic approach.
ISEC Professional Development includes an annual four-day summer Teachers Institute, condensed kit training, and site-based student-centered coaching and support with a scope and sequence of topics in effective inquiry STEM instruction and high-yield best practices. The Northern New Mexico Conference on Education is another LANL Foundation offering that translates current best practices into learning tools for local teachers, schools, and nonprofit professionals.
Summer Teachers’ Institute
Each summer, ISEC teachers attend the Teachers’ Institute for a deep dive into the investigative teaching and learning process and guidance on individual lessons specific to their grade’s curriculum module. Next Generation Science Standards and current state standards are built into K–6 grade level kits and curriculum. Teachers are paid a stipend for this professional development that also includes a focus on note booking, argumentation, classroom management strategies, and overall pedagogy.
The Teachers’ Institute is REQUIRED of and only available for newly hired teachers or those who have changed grade levels in ISEC schools.
