James C. Owen is the new acting associate director for Weapon Engineering and Experiments with overarching responsibility for systems engineering and program management of the enduring and future nuclear weapon stockpile. In his 20 years at LANL, James has a demonstrated record of success in management and execution of large, technically complex projects and programs, including serving as Technical/Program Lead of two of LANL’s Life Extensions.
He has wide-ranging interface responsibilities with the National Nuclear Science Administration’s Nuclear Weapons Enterprise and the Department of Defense, including the U.S. Navy and Air Force. He has received numerous DOE Weapons Performance Awards. James was born and raised in Peñasco, NM, enjoys sports activities, and is an avid woodworker. James joined the LANL Foundation board in 2015.
