How to Apply

The Los Alamos Employees' Scholarship Fund (LAESF) includes scholarships for students seeking 4-year degrees upon high school graduation, awards for students returning to formal education who are seeking 2-year degrees or certifications after a hiatus for other pursuits, and awards for undergraduate students of Tribal communities seeking accounting, business administration, finance, or management information systems (MIS) degrees. The application process and deadlines are dependent upon the type of scholarship being sought.

LAESF 4-Year Degree Scholarship Application

Applications for 2017 LAESF Scholarships will be accepted beginning in October, 2016. The deadline to apply is January 17, 2017.

Students interested in seeking a Los Alamos Employees’ Scholarship must submit a complete application that contains the following materials:

The online application form or hardcopy application form
• An official academic transcript(s), covering at least two most recent years (High school students should also include transcripts from post-secondary institutions from which concurrent credits have been earned. College freshman must include both an official copy of their high school and current college transcripts.)
• A copy of SAT or ACT scores (high school and college freshman applicants only)
• A copy of SAT II scores, if available (high school and college freshman applicants only)
• Two letters of recommendation (one academic and one extracurricular) signed and in sealed envelopes or by e-mail
• An essay of approximately 250 words describing personal objectives in pursuing a college degree
 
Applicants are strongly encouraged to complete and submit electronically the online application form and upload supporting materials directly into the online application portal. Application forms in PDF format may also be downloaded and submitted by mail. If submitting a hardcopy application, complete, sign, and mail the entire application with all supporting materials to the LANL Foundation. Completed application materials must be submitted electronically and/or postmarked or received by the deadline.

The deadline to apply is January 17, 2017. Applications postmarked after the submittal deadline will not be considered. Contact the LANL Foundation at (505) 753-8890 with any questions.

The LAESF Advisory Committee reviews all applications, conducts interviews, and makes award recommendations to the LANL Foundation Board of Directors. Personal interviews are conducted for finalists being considered for Platinum and Gold awards. The LANL Foundation Board makes all final decisions.

RC/RS 2-Year Degree/Certification Scholarship Application

Applicants for the Regional College/Returning Student Scholarship are strongly encouraged to complete the online application form. Application forms in PDF format may also be downloaded and submitted by mail. Contact the LANL Foundation at (505) 753-8890 with any questions.

Scholarships are awarded twice each year, and deadlines are November 28, 2016 for January, 2017 awards and June 15, 2017 for July, 2017 awards.

Northern New Mexico Tribal Business Scholarship Application

Students interested in seeking a Tribal Business Scholarship must submit a complete application that contains the following materials:
• The online application form or hardcopy application form delivered by mail or in person to the LANL Foundation office in Española
• Official academic transcript(s)
• Two letters of recommendation (one academic and one from a Tribal Leader or community member who can speak
to student’s community involvement) signed and in sealed envelopes or sent by e-mail
• An essay (250 words) describing personal objectives in pursuing an accounting, business administration, finance,
or MIS degree
• A copy of Certificate of Indian Blood (CIB) or proof of Tribal enrollment document

Applicants for the NNM Tribal Business Scholarships are strongly encouraged to complete the online application form. Application forms in PDF format may also be downloaded and submitted by mail. Contact the LANL Foundation at (505) 753-8890 with any questions.

Applications for 2017 awards will be accepted in April, 2017.
